Local Stops: Lost Acres Vineyard

This past weekend into Lost Acres Vineyard in North Granby, Connecticut. It was their first day open for the season and I was so excited to go try some local wines. They have 5 acres where they grow their own white grapes for wine. I love drinking wines that also help support local businesses.

A wine tasting is $6 and you can choose five wines that you would like to taste and get to keep your wine glass. You can choose from a stemless or regular stemmed wine glass. The five that I chose to taste were the Clemons Springs (my favorite), Chardonnay, Wedge White (their most popular), Riesling, and Merlot. The Clemons Springs is a white blend made entirely from their own grapes. It is the only white they have with a slight oak finish. It's light and dry and the the oak gives it a softness. The Chardonnay had a sharper flavor than the Clemons Springs because it is unoaked. Instead it is fermented in stainless steel resulting in a light and crisp dry wine. The Wedge White is a blend of 6 different grapes. It's very fruity and sweet but not too sweet. It goes great with spicy foods and makes a great gift wine. The Riesling was the sweetest wine they offer. I am not the hugest fan of sweet wines so this was probably my least favorite. However, something like a Moscato I can't even drink and this was drinkable so if you like sweet wines I would definitely recommend you give this one a try. It is medium bodied and well balanced. Their Merlot is soft, light, and fruity. When you try your last glass of wine they give you a chocolate to demonstrate how wine can transform the flavors of your food. You bite, sip, and bite. The chocolates come from Vermont and are delicious on their own but paired with the wine are amazing.

It's a wonderful place to go and have a girls or date night. They have a cheese platter and an antipasto platter available for purchase. You can sit outside on the deck and enjoy some great local wine overlooking the vineyard. They also host private events. Sometimes they have live music and host art shows so be sure to check out their events page before you stop in!
