The Classic Aperol Spritz
This bright orange cocktail is the perfect apertivo or pairing with your brunch spread. The classic Aperol Spritz is both light and refreshing with notes of zesty sweet and bitter oranges, herbs, and just a hint of vanilla. It’s so easy to sip on this cocktail since it’s lower in alcohol content (both the prosecco and Aperol contain 11%) and perfectly balanced. It’s also easy to make, you don’t need any bar equipment for this one; just the ingredients and a wine glass.
Ingredients:
Chilled prosecco (I prefer La Marca)
Aperol
Sparkling water
Ice
Orange slices for garnish
Directions:
Fill a glass with ice.
Then pour equal amounts of prosecco followed by Aperol into the glass.
Add a splash of sparkling water.
Garnish with an orange slice.
Give it a gentle stir.
Enjoy responsibly.
Sometimes (especially in Italy) the Aperol Spritz is garnished with both orange and green olives, but I tend to leave out the olives as a personal preference. Some recipes also call for two parts prosecco to one part Aperol, just experiment to find which way you prefer it. If you think it’s too sweet with half and half, try it the other way.
Whether you serve the Aperol Spritz with brunch or before dinner with an appetizer, it’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser. As the weather gets warmer, these make a fantastic and invigorating pick-me-up. Cheers!
